Our Skoda Yeti Elegance 4×4 Arrived on the 20th of December, just in time to lug round tons of presents and relatives to and from parties. Our initial impression that this is a well built car have not changed after running it for a day.
The Yeti drive is on the video below and this link takes you to all the other Carlease UK video’s on YouTube.
Ours is the Elegance and at present has 16 inch steel wheels with Continental TS830 Winter tyres, a fantastic idea whether you have two wheel drive or four wheel drive, ask your account controller to get Phil to price you some winter tyres. The Yeti 4×4 is underpinned by the four wheel drive system produced by Haldex, a fifth generation developed especially for the the VW Group. Having used the generation 4 system on a VW Tiguan, I know from experience that system is fantastic, especially in last years snow. Audi have started using the Haldex system rather than their own Quattro system using the Torsen differential.
The alloys fitted standard are below.
Standard Erebus Alloys.
The Elegance has good specification as standard and is among our best lease deals right now. Click here to see the latest Yeti deal. The drive of the latest Yeti is superb, the 2013 shares a chassis with the new Golf, Passat and to some degree the new Audi A3. The seats are supportive and comfortable as well as heated, gorgeous in winter. Adjustable for height and with lumbar support, if you cant get comfortable in this car then you are not trying hard enough. The standard radio cd player stacks 6 cd’s internally and can be used to operate your phone as well. So far the system is working just fine with an iphone using ios6 which is more than can be said for most other VW product. Unlike most other 4×4, the Yeti feels smaller rather than larger than it is. Its turning circle is car-like so no shunting to park at the supermarket, a visit to M&S this morning and parking was a doddle, even in the strange offset parking lanes that they use.
The rear seat set up is superb, three seatbelts and three individually folding seats lead to great choice of layout. Tonight I picked up the in laws, we had 5 adults on board, all with full seatbelts and loads of presents in the boot, this thing is a little tardis. Loaded like this, good lights are important and the bi-xenon lights are fantastic, added to the driving lights which can be really useful in a dark spot. The bi-xenon change angle as you go around a corner which makes for fun when you fire the engine and the lights come on. They go through a reset sequence and its quite amusing.
Having used it for a few days now I have an indication of its mpg and its averaging 42 mpg, good for a brand new 4×4. The cruise control, standard on the Elegance, is the regular VW unit. Its not fussy or complex but works really well. Once we have a few miles on our lease Yeti I am sure our consumption will improve further.
The Tiguan we have used has been reliable, good in Winter, roomy enough but… VW have to ask themselves a question, are they getting it right when the Yeti drives so much better, has the latest chassis and engine and great spec, but is still cheaper. Is the VW badge really worth that much more when in fact the Yeti drives so much better. A phone kit that works, rear seats that are so much more flexible and loads of other things, maybe we are intact getting an insight into the new Tiguan?
On Friday night, I was just were the M6 was closed between Wigan and Standish and wagons could not move up the slip road and the A580 towards Liverpool. I was stuck in behind a wagon in every direction. I went across a near field with foot long grass and 10 inches of snow, these tyres and the Yeti drive train I must say are really fantastic.
