BMW have been out testing the new 2 Series, the car that will replace the 1-series coupe and probably the convertible .
It appears that BMW will be keeping their recent family image for the upcoming car which is actually quite a change from the existing 1 series. It will be a rear wheel drive layout as its what BMW know best, the chassis is likely to be shared with the ONE, or maybe a derivative of. Expect it to look very much like the recently shown 4 seres ( 3 series coupe).
Inside, there is no reason for BMW to vary on the classy interior that adorns their entire range. Expect though the efficient dynamics team to have a large influence on this new car. It is BMW’s first opportunity to really have a crack at a super efficient car and I don’t think that they will let us down.
The existing One series has a four wheel drive option and we expect the new two series to carry this option over. BMW are based in Munich and in Bavaria it snows. Also expect an M2, with engines and running gear drawing heavily on development that has already been carried out on the Mini range. Staying with the Mini range, expect a stand alone One series launched next year, the chassis and running gear to come from Mini.
We expect a 235i to sit just below the M2 and also we expect at least 8 speeds on the auto boxes.
