Thank you to our business leasing customer, based in Wigan (Greater Manchester), for sending through pictures of their latest fleet addition – the Mitsubishi L200 pickup.
Pickups are a more niche aspect of the commercial market, representing a minority of the product. So long as the vehicle has a payload of over 1000kgs, these are considered as a commercial vehicle and will be treated as such for VAT/rental allowance/BiK. Do consider that if you are adding accessories, like a hardtop, this will be taken into account for the purposes of payloads.
Should your vehicle not meet this requirements, it will be considered to be a car and therefore will be taxed as such.
This means your business may have to re-pay considerable amounts of rental/VAT allowances claimed and, as a company car driver, you will need to work out the level of company car tax payable i.e. CO2/P11d and your income tax level.
In terms of the vehicle shown here, the Mitsubishi L200 Diesel Double Cab Di-d 178 Barbarian 4WD Manual, this is based on the following configuration:
· Polar White Solid paint
· Leather – Black

On the technical-side, the 2442CC engine delivers 178ps, combined MPG of 39.8 and 0-62 times of 10.4 seconds. Service intervals are every 12 months or 12,500 miles, whichever lands sooner.
So would the Mitsubishi L200 be your preferred choice of pickup? Or would you choose the Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara or Toyota HiLux?
