Thanks to Autoexpress for the awesome images and write-up on the new Audi Q8, which was on display at the recent Detroit Motor Show.
Yet again, we see another SUV-style vehicle hitting the UK (due circa 2018). While we do love Audi deals (click here), it is surprising as to the volume of big luxury cars which are being introduced by almost every manufacturer – see our recent blogs on the Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan Allspace.
Is it that drivers want bigger and more-spacious vehicles or do manufacturers think that modern consumers only have sufficient funds for one vehicle which does it all? Obviously, there is a still a huger market for the younger driver with the smaller (and easier to insure cars) with the Fiesta, Corsa and Clio etc It’s just interesting that so much investment is going into the bigger and more luxurious end of the market.
The Audi Q8 is without a doubt a direct competitor to the Mercedes GLE Coupe and BMW X6, which until Jaguar or Land Rover come up with a rival, have a little bit of a monopoly in this area. With vehicles prices between £55,000 and £75,000 these are truly luxury car leasing considerations and are really targeting a very specific market. You also have to consider why would a driver consider this “Coupe” style over the “SUV” style of vehicle. Is there really such a big and demanding market?
What are your thoughts – would you choose the Audi Q8 over one of the rivals?
