Today we’re checking out and comparing a couple of Mercedes-Benz finest. The Mercedes A Class AMG Line vs. the Sports Executive A Class model.
These Mercedes A Class arrived for collection from two local customers earlier this week. Set amidst gloomy skies their contrasting White and Black combination still made them stand out as their colours and coin series ensured that these cars not only look like a million bucks but, also allowed for a quick comparison between the visual and technical impact of AMG Line styling vs. Sports Executive (SE) styling has in the A Class range.
How simple, subtle changes by the AMG department at Mercedes can have such an effect on the road presence and engine of the mighty Mercedes A Class itself presents these two models in a remarkably different way.
Seen here on the right hand side in White, the Mercedes A Class A180d Sport Executive (SE) Manual
This car came complete with Mercedes 17“ twin spoke alloy wheels.
Interior wise the SE model came complete with black Artico Leather and a grey headlining.
Seen below on the left in Cosmos Black, A180d in contrasting AMG Line body kit and front areo-styling of the bumper and grill as well as the 18” AMG twin spoke alloys in titanium grey with high sheen finish really do paint a more a dynamic design tone for this car when on the road…

Interior-wise the AMG Line styling continues with our customers choice of Artico Leather (in black) with red stitching completing the look and feel of this their new vehicle.
The engines in these cars differ slightly with the AMG Line theme continuing under the bonnet.
Although these cars appear to use the same Mercedes 180d diesel engine variant the MPG figures for the two cars are quite far apart. The AMG Line engine produces 78 MPG and yet the SE engine a massive 88 MPG. And the savings with the SE line don’t just stop there with only 89(g/km) C02 the SE line engine comes up tops trumps vs. the AMG Line 102 (g/km) C02.
The 1461cc diesel engine produces positive results for the A Class range and this SE line model quoting some of the best MPG in this segment when mated to the 6 speed manual gearbox.
So which car would you like to drive home in? The A180d AMG Line or the 180d SE model? Its a tough choice as both have some really good things going for them when comparing to similar sized VW Golf, Alfa-Romeo Giulietta, Lexus CT style vehicles which compete in this hatchback, compact-prestige segment.
