Thank you to our personal leasing customer from Warrington (Cheshire) for visiting the CarLease UK team to collect their brand-new vehicle – the Mercedes GLA (SUV).
This was literally the last vehicle in our stock deal on this vehicle and our customer was very fortunate to secure a cancelled deal just in time for Christmas.
In-keeping with most of 2018, anything which is an SUV and cost-effective is very attractive to many of our customers, personal and business. The change in buying habits in our automotive industry has been somewhat dramatic over the last 12-18 months; customers are now focused on petrol and SUV style vehicles.
The change in attitudes to diesel has been borne out of Government policy, political discourse and environmental research which has seemingly thrown a cat amongst the pigeons. This has left manufacturers in a very difficult position as they try to produce cars which meet the needs and requirements of the UK populous.
One of the queries the customer raised (as it was their first time leasing a car) was – how easy is it to lease a car in the UK? Contract hire (which is what we call “leasing”) has grown considerably over the last 5 years; for company cars/business users contract hire has been one of the foremost ways for a fleet to be operate but in the retail market this is something which has only seen significant growth in the last 5 years or so.
The change in attitudes toward online purchasing and transactions, even in high value goods, has been responsible for some of the growth.
This is coupled with the decline in company cars and car purchase style products. More and more personal customers are becoming accustomed to the idea of usership products, like contract hire, as the necessity to “own” a car is becoming more infrequent. Plus, customers just like to change their car more often.
In terms of the car shown here, the Mercedes-Benz GLA CLASS HATCHBACK GLA 200 AMG Line 5door Auto (Petrol), this is based on the following configuration:

· 19″ AMG 5 spoke alloy wheels painted in Titanium grey with high sheen finish
As standard the car includes aluminium roof rails, radiator grille with 2 louvres in silver, 19” alloy wheels, cruise control + speed limiter, heated rear window with timer, heated windscreen wash system, rain sensing wipers, rear privacy glass, adaptive brake system, brake callipers with Mercedes lettering, hill start assist, AMG floor mats, attention assist, reversing camera, sports steering, easy-pack tailgate, stop/start system, 8” colour screen display, smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay), electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, chrome air vents, Bluetooth, roof spoiler, automatic headlamp activation, LED indicators and tail lights, fog lights, climate control, 3-spoke flat bottomed steering wheel, gearshift paddles, keyless start, alarm system with immobiliser, ambient lighting and sports seats. There are very few additional options you can add to the vehicle. Consider – DAB radio and the night pack OR upgrade to an Executive/Premium or Premium Plus model.
On the technical-side, company car and business users can note the P11d at £30,800.00 and CO2 at 148g/km for calculation of company car tax exposure. The 1595CC 7 speed automatic petrol engine delivers 156ps, 43.5 combined MPG and 0-62 times of 8.1 seconds. Service intervals are set at every 12 months or 15,500 miles on the petrol GLA.
So would you select the GLA as your next leasing option? Or would the Audi Q3, Jaguar E Pace or Range Rover Evoque get your vote?
