Thank you to our existing business lease customer, a leading electrical services firm from Edinburgh (in Scotland), for sending through pictures of their latest fleet addition – the Mercedes GLA.
Adding this pre-registered SUV to our customers fleet was of course beneficial to us (we are here to supply new cars and vans) but this did arise out of a difficult position for the customer as their original vehicle was stolen.
Another part of this transaction, which is a nuance to our industry, was that the customer received a pre-registered vehicle. This is something which is very common as the deals which are put together are often done on a “bulk” basis.
As such, the vehicles will be registered at certain date and then will be subsequently sold. If the batch of vehicles arrives in August and are registered immediately, this means you can have a situation where an “18” plate could be delivered in September/October (when it should be a “68” plate).
Having a pre-registered vehicle should not cause you any immediate alarm in that this is not a swindle or a con. The main question to ask your lease car dealer or lease car credit broker is when was the car registered? The reason for this is that the date of registration commences the time for a) warranty period; and b) MOT.
For most vehicles the warranty period is 3 years, so if you are risk averse, you need to ensure you are comfortable using a vehicle during this period. If you are not, you need to consider a shorter contract. In addition, every vehicle must receive an MOT on its third anniversary. So long as you are aware of these facts (and you have considered them as part of your decision) there are no real issues.
Do bear in mind that many of our cheaper/more competitive deals are offered on this basis and so there is an inherent cost-saving in pursuing these time sensitive leasing deals.
