Without doubt, the SUV and crossover market is the number one in the UK automotive market. Manufacturers, budget and premium, are fighting to ensure that they are at the forefront of the customer’s decision making process when it comes to their new car. However, with the sheer volume of choice, whether a small or big vehicle, making a definitive decision is almost impossible.
What is clear is that traditional MPVs, think Ford Galaxy, VW Touran, Seat Alhambra, are far less popular in the modern market.
Many customers need a vehicle which offers an elevated driving position, style and aesthetics, competent specification and passenger load space. The SUV ticks all of the boxes and fulfils the practical criteria which many drivers need meeting.
As budgets become tighter in a modern economy, it is no longer possible to have multiples of cars on your drive – you therefore need to ensure you get a vehicle which does all!
The customer taking this vehicle here, a personal leasing customer from Manchester, needed a vehicle for their expanding family. Driving an older 5-seat BMW X5, they wanted a car which was spacious, automatic and had a base level of specification which would fulfil their needs. Our recent stock based offer on the Nissan X-TRAIL, just ticked all of their boxes.
The car offered so much value, the customer elected to include the funder-maintenance within the contract too (as this was still below their budget). By adding the funder-maintenance into the contract you are including all of servicing, maintenances, repairs, tyre replacements and, in some cases breakdown recovery.
In practice, it makes it very easy for a customer to organise routing service and tyre works on their vehicle by calling a phone number to arrange any of this.
In many cases, the nominated garage or dealer will offer collection and delivery service on the vehicle or offer a mobile tyre fitting service to ensure minimum disruption to the customer. Funder Maintenance is NOT compulsory however but maintaining the vehicle is. If you do pay for the servicing and maintenance yourself do ensure that the work is properly carried out so as not to cause issues with the manufacturer’s warranty.

In terms of specification the car comes standard with rain sensing wipers, brake assist, hill start assist, cruise control, front/rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, 5” screen, electric folding mirrors, electrical folding mirrors (and heated), panoramic sunroof, automatic lights, LED daytime lights, climate control, 17” alloys, alarm, immobiliser, 60/40 split folding seats and privacy glass. It is not possible to add any additional factor options – you have to increase in specification level i.e. N-Vision or Tekna.
In terms of technical specification, company car and business drivers can note the P11d at £30,300 and CO2 at 148g/km for calculating company car tax. The 1995CC auto engine will deliver 177ps, 0-62 times of 9.6 seconds and combined MPG of 50.4. Service intervals are every 12 months or 18,000 miles, whichever lands sooner.
So would the X-trail (with a new model now out) be your preferential leasing option? Or would you be consider the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento or Skoda Kodiaq?
Or perhaps these MPVs are more your cup of tea – if MPG or high mileage is your thing then do consider an MPV over an SUV…
