Since the Clio was re-modelled circa 3 years ago, it has offered a refreshing alternative to the UK’s best-selling car, the Ford Fiesta. In some ways, you can’t criticise the Ford, which has continued to be one of the best small car options in the autotmotive market. In particular, the Fiesta has been a mainstay for younger people, especially first-time drivers. Where the Fiesta really excels, is that it produces a fun, but frugal, 1.0 ecoboost option which can produce an output of circa 140ps! This delivers a fairly enjoyable ride on the 3-cylinder setup.
That being said, drivers do want a bit of variety and some other options to consider. The Clio is very much a solid “Plan B” vehicle which, from a stylistic perspective, is one of the best cars within this range. The car pictured offers some great specification, for such value, with 17” alloys, rear parking sensors, cruise control, 7” touch navigation, electric folding mirrors, LED headlights/daytime running lights, auto climate control, Thatcham Cat 2 alarm and Renault’s anti-intruder devise.
The 1.5 litre diesel offers a basic power of 90ps but, with a combined MPG of circa 80, this could offer some big-savings on your fuel bill. For the younger driver needing insurance – this is a group 10E vehicle.
Where Renault has a little advantage over the Ford is that they do offer more in the way of specification for some of the lower vehicles. Adding navigation and parking sensors can be expensive with Ford, whereas Renault (and other brands) are offering these basic requirements as standard. As the Fiesta is on run-out, perhaps the next generation will be a tad more generous? In our opinion, Ford to have to bring more to the table on this front.
Which small car leasing option would you choose – the Fiesta, Clio, Peugeot 208, Vauxhall Corsa or the VW Polo?
