It’s was an absolute pleasure to hand this amazing, and sporty, hatchback over to our personal car leasing customer from St Helens – the model year 18 Volkswagen GOLF HATCHBACK 2.0 TSI GTI 5dr DSG.
Our existing customer had been running a BMW 320d Business Auto but, due to a change in their circumstances, was covering significantly less mileage…
In their original contract, they were covering in excess of 20,000 miles per annum, which we would class as a higher mileage driver and, as result, the automatic diesel engine offered a practical and cost-effective solution to their driving style and behaviour. However, due to a change in their work (now semi-retired), their annual mileage requirements reduced significantly, from 20,000 to circa 8,000 miles per annum.
As their driving was generally shorter start-stop journeys a diesel vehicle would have been inappropriate, so our focus was on a petrol vehicle.
Can an older person/retired person lease a vehicle? This is absolutely possible. Take for example the customer for this GTI, who had recently semi-retired. Firstly (and maybe surprisingly) they were above the age of 65. Secondly, they had changed their working life from full-time employment to a semi-retired status.
This does not preclude their ability to procure a leasing deal, as this is a financial product which is based on 1) credit; and 2) affordability. In every instance, our team works with the customer to go through an affordability statement, known as income/expenditure details, which is subsequently presented to the underwriter at the selected finance company.
In terms of the car shown, the VW Golf GTI 5dr DSG, this was based on the following configuration:The fact that you may be retired, or older, will not prohibit your ability to contract hire a vehicle (read more.) If you have any queries on that, just let our CarLease UK team know.
· Special solid – Pure white
· Jacara tartan cloth – Black/red
· 18″ Parker alloy wheels

If you want to upgrade this beauty consider the following factory options– heat insulated glass, rear view camera and the panoramic roof for the complete machine.
If you need more speed, go for the 245ps Performance pack or the 310ps Golf R which is currently on special offer….
On the technical-side, company car drivers need to note the P11d at £30,705.00 and CO2 at 148g/km for a standard car. The 1984CC 6 speed semi-auto engine delivers 230ps, 0-62 time of circa 6.5 seconds and combined MPG of 44.1. Servicing-wise, it’s every 24 months or 10,000 miles, whichever lands sooner.
With this being a highly-tuned car, do consider servicing this vehicle promptly and properly. This may lend you to consider the funder-maintenance package.
So would the VW Golf be your choice of sporty-hatchback? With great options with the Merc A-Class or the BMW 1 Series (particularly the 125i M Sport), would a customer go for the GTi?
