The car shown, the V90 2.0 D5 PowerPulse R DESIGN Pro Auto, is another fabulous addition from Volvo to their growing brand. Having launched the new XC90 circa 18 months ago, the new V90 was another adjustment to bring the manufacturer in-line with its main rivals – Mercedes, Audi, BMW and Jaguar.
In terms of the car shown here, this is based on the following configuration:With Volvo recently launching the XC60 and making a commitment to produce electric cars only, this Swedish manufacturer is doing all that it can to be at the forefront of the contract hire and leasing industry in the UK.
· Metallic – Bright silver;
· Contour sports leather/nubuck – Charcoal; and
· 20” 5 double spoke diamond cut matt black alloy wheels.
As standard the car comes with a great level of specification – sensus connect navigation, lowered sport chassis, rear park assist, 20” alloys, 2 zone climate control, sports seats, dark tinted windows, heated windscreen, Bluetooth, sports floor mats, adaptive cruise control with pilot assist, Collison warning, lane mitigation, road edge detection, 12.3” driver screen display, electrically adjustable (and heated) door mirrors, tempa spare wheel, heated front seats, whiplash protection system, ambient lighting, footwell illumination and warning triangle/first aid kit. In terms of additional factory options – add the front park assist, and keyless entry system for the complete family car.
In terms of the Volvo brand, you have the choice of three specification levels:
· Momentum – the base model offers key facets such as sensus navigation, LED and 17” alloys;
· R Design – discussed above; and
· Inscription – the elite model offers nappa soft leather a standard.
On the technical-side, company car drivers can note the P11d of £48,850.00 and CO2 at 129g/km. The 1969CC 8 speed auto engine delivers 235ps, 0-62 time of 7.2 seconds and 57.6 combined MPG. Considering this is the AWD (“winter-friendly” model), these are considerably proficient stats. Service intervals are every 12 months.
On the service and maintenance-side of leasing, you do have to make a decision as to whether to go for a “driver-maintained” or “funder-maintained” arrangement (read more…) If driver-maintained, it is your responsibility as the driver to ensure the car is serviced in accordance with the manufacturers requirements; this not only preserves the warranty (generally 3 years for each manufacturer) but it prevents you from being charged at the end of the contract for a missed service.
You also need to ensure you replace the tyres when required due to wear/tear or due to punctures.
If you do want to include this cost within your contract, you need to elect for a funder-maintained arrangement. In this instance, the finance company will include the cost of servicing, maintenance and tyres within your monthly rental. In some circumstances, it will also include breakdown recovery. In each case, you need to weigh up the cost/benefits of each arrangement.
So would you really choose the Volvo V90 over the BMW 5 series, Audi A6 or the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake? The luxury family-estate section is littered with good options; you probably cannot go wrong!
