WILL AUTONOMOUS CARS KILL INSURANCE COMPANIES?
Autonomous, self-driving, cars will cut road deaths, reduce traffic jams and as we will be accident free (virtually), third party insurance, the biggest part of any insurance, will not be required. Furthermore road deaths are projected to fall by as much as 90%, or 130,000 per year. Phew!
With vehicle manufacturers and navigation companies investing billions every year to drag us into their vision of autonomous utopia, all we need now is government and European legislators to come to the party.
How will self driving cars make UK roads safer?
Autonomous cars will drive and navigate around themselves in harmony, taking into account weather conditions, traffic volume and the time of day, all of which contributor to accidents here in the UK. And when working in conjunction with on-board, real-time traffic congestion information will mean that all an any available route to the destination will be used and this will eventually lead to no more traffic jams… Sounds amazing, right?
By far the biggest benefit of self driving cars is expected to be that accidents will reduce to virtually zero because every model of autonomous car includes a system for all cars to “geo locate” all other vehicles on the road around them. This will include motorcycles and help reduce the accidents brought about from car drivers simply not being aware of their presence!
According to motorcycle safety campaigners, if 10% of cars were replaced with motorcycles in the UK, we would have no traffic jams and fewer motorcycle accidents.
With the introduction of autonomous cars, this zero road-accident UK will soon be reality for all.
