Dyson are planning to develop an electric car and are already describing it as radical…
Mercedes-Benz probably make a hand drier via one of their subsidiary companies and interestingly elsewhere in the world, Hyundai, make vacuum cleaners…
But is that any reason for Dyson to venture into a market that they know nothing about?
Said to be investing over £2 Billion into the electric car scheme; inventor James Dyson and his 400 strong employees (based in Wiltshire, UK) are planning to have the car on the market by 2020.
Even the mighty Google and latterly Apple seem to have pulled back from a headlong dash into electric cars and autonomous transport… So is the £2bn that Dyson say they will spend on developing the new electric car really enough? That figure that is mere pocket money to the mega rich Google and Apple but yet they seem to have gone quiet. Notably VW plan to spend £17bn on battery development alone.
With a target launch date of 2020, to align with the UK government target date for hybrid and electric cars only, it is difficult to believe that Dyson have no idea of size, range, design or technology. However they insist that no prototype exists and no site has been chosen for a factory.
Dyson have a history breaking the mold, look how they have changed hand driers and fans. Personally we here at CarLease UK can’t wait to see what the UK team come up with… Stay tuned to our blog for more updates.
