Jaguar Land Rover engine masterstroke…
The new Jaguar E-pace will benefit from the full range of the brilliant Ingenium engines.
Conceived in 2014 and built exclusively at a new facility in Birmingham, the Ingenium engines are made up of petrol and diesel units that are made on the same production line.
All units share a 500cc per cylinder design with all aluminum blocks being shared between both fuel types. The new six cylinder range has now been launched and been well received.
The engine list is:
Diesel: 148bhp, 280lb ft, from 124g/km
Diesel: 178bhp, 317;b ft, from 137g/km
Diesel: 237bhp, 369lb ft, 162g/km
Petrol: 247bhp, 269lb ft, 174g/km
Petrol: 296bhp, 295lb ft, 181g/km
The Ingenium engine is up to 80kg lighter than the engines that it has replaced and seems to have been designed to incorporated hybrid systems. Fuel savings of the first 2 litre have easily surpassed the target of 15% over the outgoing 2.2 litre unit.
The Ingenium range of engines by Jaguar has met Euro 6 from the beginning, using variable exhaust valve timing during the warm up phase to minimise warm up time.
