CEO Elon Musk was quoted as describing the present situation as “production hell” for the Model 3 but a report of staff layoffs is attracting more attention. Newspaper reports in the UK and California claim that Tesla had fired 400 hundred workers, with little warning.
Tesla have refused to comment.
Tesla have since released a statement pointing out that the staff are being replaced not laid off and it is as a result of performance assessment. A far cry from the thank you event which it ran in July for workers who have made the Model 3 a reality.
To date Tesla have produced just 220 Model 3, a target of 5000 per week is beginning to look a long way off.
