VW Continue to rebuild trust and go electric in a big way…
Along with General Motors and of course Toyota, VW is in the top three car manufacturers in the world and still growing. But, having just had a torrid and expensive period following dieselgate VW are beginning a big switch over to electric.
VW in a recent statement laid out their intention to become a leading supplier of lithium-ion batteries and has embarked on two factories, one of which will be on parr with what Tesla refer to as their gigafactory.
In order to achieve the amount of batteries that VW intend to need going forward, head of R&D at VW thinks that they will need 40 gigafactories.
It is becoming obvious to the powerful unions in the German car manufacturing sector that the building of a new eGolf needs many hours less than a comparable petrol or diesel. The manufacturing of the batteries would increase the man hours per unit back to combustion engine levels and any batteries sold third party would increase it.
