The UK government has proposed recently that new cars should be exempt from an MOT test for the first four years of their lives. This is great news for 48 month car lease customers as it means that your lease car will not require an MOT during the entire term of your contract.
The scheme would also be extended to Motorbikes and could come into effect early next year depending on public consultation.
Extending the period before the safety check is required from three years would save motorists more than £100 million, the Department for Transport (DfT) said. The move will bring Britain into line with Northern Ireland and many other European countries including France, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Denmark and Norway and is one of the first reforms to be applied to the motoring industry since 1967 when the MOT-free period was slashed from ten to three years.
