With the hybrid model not yet ready to launch, VW made the decision to launch the new Passat as a Diesel only car.
Sales of Petrol Passat’s have fallen to less than 1% for the previous model, so I suppose VW were right. I drove the 2.0 diesel recently in 148bhp guise and to be honest you would not want petrol, especially with a 17% BIK and 70mpg
Even in 1.6Tdi form the Passat it goes well, is quiet and refined. Driving the Passat is similar in feel to a Mondeo, with VW at last catching Ford in ride quality. Build quality has never been a problem for the Passat and the new model is no exception. The latest model VW Golf led the way in a build quality revolution at VW and the Passat has carried it on. The cabin is well laid out with a typical VW dash which is clear and easy to use
The Passat has grown a little and you can now carry four six-foot adults without any room issues. The boot is large enough for most luggage requirements
