It is always a pleasure to see a beautiful car on our premises here at CarLease UK. While a personal leasing customer was renting a vehicle from Enterprise (Leigh nr Manchester) we couldn’t help but take photographs of their latest car – the BMW 5 SERIES DIESEL SALOON 520d M Sport 4dr Auto.
A recent addition to the BMW fleet, the new BMW 5 series is slowly making its way onto the UK roads and is fast making a case for being the best luxury saloon in the market against the Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF.
While luxury BMW specific lease car deals have been a little less forthcoming, our recent offer on the touring (estate) (browse deal) has given great food for thought.
What is quite interesting with the new BMW 5 series, is that many customers are now asking about the petrol options which are available with the car. The phenomenal growth of the diesel engine is perhaps at its peak point and with the Government having recently launched a campaign against this type of fuel, both personal and business drivers are now enquiring about petrol or petrol/electric alternatives.
With the BMW 5 Series now available in a 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 petrol plus a 3.0”e”, customers are spoiled for choice with alternatives. Diesel is definitely not “dead” as per recent reports, the majority of vehicles still being supplied will be diesel. But, what has happened, is a shift in thought and now the general public are considering the practical benefits of a petrol vs diesel car.
For the low mileage/start-stop drivers, the diesel engine is clearly not the best solution and customers are beginning to recognise this.
Business drivers/company car users are also exploring petrol/electric hybrids as a means of reducing their tax liability and utilising a car which can still offer reasonable combined MPG too. However, there is still some way to go and what we cannot do is simply demonise all diesels until there are genuine (and cost-effective) alternatives. Over to you manufacturers and Government!
In terms of the car shown here, the 520d M Sport 4dr Auto Saloon, this is based on the following configuration:
Metallic – Mediterranean blue
Dakota leather – Black/Black world with exclusive stitching
18″ M double spoke light alloy wheels – style 662M
Aluminium fine cutting interior trim with pearl chrome finish
As standard, the M Sport offers cruise control, sport seats, 18” alloys, electric front seats, air conditioning, leather upholstery, LED lights, rain sensing wipers, dynamic traction control, hill start assist, front/rear parking sensors, 20GB hard drive, navigation (professional), 10.2” touch screen, electric and heated door mirrors, Bluetooth, Thatcham Cat 1 alarm, heated front seats, crash sensor, ambient lights, twin tailpipes and gearshift paddles. In term of additional options on the 5 series, consider the reversing camera, sun protection glass and comfort access system for the perfect car.
On the technical-side, company car drivers note the P11d at a chunky £40,295.00 and CO2 at 114g/km. The 1995CC 8 speed auto engine delivers 190ps, 65.6 combined MPG and 0-62 times of 7.5 seconds. Service intervals on the BMW are long-life and so are every 24 months or 18,000 miles whichever lands first. For the low-mileage user, do consider the cost benefits for driver-maintained vs funder-maintained arrangements.
So would the BMW 5 series be your luxury leasing option? Or would you be heading to Audi, Mercedes or Jaguar?
