How long does it take to organise a new lease car? Can I take delivery of one straight away? Do I really need to go through a process to get my new car?
The internet is fully of amazing cars; you need only look to Instagram to see some of the nation’s best-loved luxury and prestige cars.
Some of the posts you see say “collect now from £500 per month” or “no –credit check; just turn up and drive away”.
To be very direct, the internet is a very informative place where customers can ascertain the facts to ensure they procure the right products.
However, it is also full of rubbish and dishonesty which customers are failing to see.
The FCA have recently produced some adverts on Instagram to educate customers on “Forex Trading” – you will see a number of young individuals discussing how they gave up a life as a plumber/electrician/joiner, to travel the world buying watches, clothes and cars and all from the comfort of their computer or phone. Some of this is complete and utter nonsense and this is no different in the car world .
Not everything you read and see is true. There is a process and it is there to protect you.
A quick thank you to Williams Land Rover and Jaguar in Manchester for organising another demo for the CarLease UK team.
Having received a Jaguar I Pace (pure electric), RR Sport P400e (PHEV) and this, the range Rover Sport diesel, their corporate team have more than looked after us and our customers. For information on seeing the product for yourself, head over to their site in Manchester city centre or get in touch via this link
So would you select the RR sport as your next car leasing option? Or would the BMW X5, Mercedes GLE or Porsche Cayenne be your choice?
For most individual/personal contract hire customers, the process will take from 14-21 days for a stock vehicle.
For any allocation based offers (vehicles which are built and on route to the UK for pre-purchase) or factory orders (built bespoke for you) the timescales could be anywhere from 4 weeks to over a year depending on the product.
When you are looking for a new car lease you need to be specific with the broker or finance company and tell them, when you need the vehicle for. If you have a vehicle being returned or you just need something asap you need to be very specific and ask for a stock vehicle.
Our impetus with customers is to offer the best value product/vehicle based on their needs and requirements; we don’t automatically find you the quickest solutions available. What personal customers need to be aware of too is that there are a number of regulations protect them with a “cooling-off” period – see Consumer Credit Directive, Consumer Contracts Regulations and Distance Marketing Regulations.
Starting on the day after the customer signs an order, they have 14-days in which to walk away from the agreement and should incur little to no cost for doing so (apart from services rendered).
The timescales are of course heavily influenced by the customer themselves. If you have a customer searching online and requesting a number of quotes, it will of course take them a few days to narrow this down to one supplier.
When you are “price-checking” make sure the deals are comparable.
To help customers do this more accurately we have a Total Amount Payable calculation which helps show how much the agreement will actually cost of over the term. Some customer receive quotes based on different terms, mileages and initial rentals; make sure everything is on a like for like basis. Having chosen the quotation, you need to go through a credit based application before you can proceed with the quote. Be very careful of adverts which suggest there is a contract hire product which is available without the need for credit checks or an underwriting process; almost of all of the major finance companies we operate with require this.
If you see a “non-credit” contract hire product advertised it is actually going to be a rental product on a used car or some form of high interest PCP arrangement.
If you do go through a no credit check type product you will almost certainly be paying an incredible amount for the vehicle.
As part of our credit/affordability assessment, we would always suggest that customers should correct their credit first rather than push themselves further into trouble by taking on high interest arrangements on a prestige car.
How long does a credit-check take? So long as you supply all of the correct details and you have good credit, it takes us to longer than 10 minutes to input the data and organise an acceptance. If you don’t supply details which are accurate or if you have issues on your credit file, this may take much longer.
This is why we suggest that some customers obtain a credit report first.
Once credit acceptance is in place, the customer will be asked to sign our order forms, so that we can a) order the vehicle; and b) organise finance documents with the selected finance company. This will take around 7 days to arrange; most of finance companies use “e-docs” which means you do not sign physical documents but instead access a link on your phone or computer to sign documents.
Once you have signed the finance documents, delivery of your new car can be arranged.
