If you add to this the launch of new SUV products in the form of the XC60 and XC90, including some hybrid options, and you have a manufacturer which is really making progress.
More recently Volvo has announced that it has pledged to have an electric motor for every car within the range by the close of 2019. Between 2019 and 2021, 5 new models will launch within this segment electric/eco-car aspect of the industry. However, with Elon Musk and Tesla throwing out great electric vehicles, in particular the new Model 3, car manufacturers do need to invest to keep up with.
The V40 is very much an alternative to the VW Golf, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A-Class. The R Design Pro, which is the “sporty” model, has a great level of standard specification – 18” alloys, cruise control, sensus high connect sound system, rear park assist, dark tinted windows, hill start assist, rain-sensing wipers, navigation, automatic folding mirrors (and heated), DAB radio, roof spoiled, LED headlights, body coloured externals, whiplash protection system (WHIPS)< sports leather and dual exhaust pipes. For the perfect car, consider the following additional factory options – front park assist, winter pack and the fixed panoramic sunroof.
On the technical-side, company car drivers can note the 99g/km CO2 and P11d at £29,990.00. The 1969CC 6 speed manual engine delivers 190ps, which gets you to 62 mph in circa 7.5 seconds while offering 74.3MPG. On purely engine statistics and functionality, these are amazing vehicles.
So would the ultra-safe Volvo V40 be your choice? Or would you be going for the other leading German alternatives below?
