With rumours of the new BMW 3 series including an all-electric version with a range of 300 miles, by the time the Tesla Model 3 eventually gets to the UK, all the would be buyers could be accounted for.
The Tesla Model 3 is priced as promised at $35,000. This will surely be £35,000 plus £9000 for the 300 mile pack, but the new Nissan Leaf with a 200 mile range is expected to be priced at £26,000. The new Model 3 may be a great car, but will it be sufficiently different to its rivals to be so much more expensive.
Already, in the US, the Model 3 with all its extras is $59,000, which you can expect to be similar in £’s in right hand drive.
But Tesla has something that Nissan and BMW do not have, 455,000 deposited orders.
This is easily enough for the first two years production, taking the Model 3 immediately. By the end of year two after launch of the Model 3, we will have the Golf e, the Mercedes Ce and the Audi A4 e. The ground rules of 300 mile range have been laid, it promises to be interesting.
