Thank you to our personal lease customer, from Enniskillen (Northern Ireland), for sending through pictures of their new (but pre-registered) car – the Mercedes A-Class.
One of the first questions our customer asked was – can I lease a car when I live in Northern Ireland? Like many of the questions which are asked of our team, in many circumstances the answer depends (and sometimes with conditions attached). If you are based in Northern Ireland and you want to lease a car, many of the companies which will appear online will be English-based companies. So long as you reside in Northern Ireland (we cannot supply to Southern Ireland) and the finance company can locate you at the address / establish your credit position, then we are able to proceed.
As contract hire is a credit-based transaction, you will be asked to complete a proposal form. As such, we do ask for a certain amount of personal information which allows the finance company to perform the necessary credit checks.
If you are concerned about your credit status, then you need to run an Experian (or Equifax) report before speaking with a car leasing company.
How are lease vehicles delivered to Northern Ireland? As part of a contract hire arrangement, the delivery costs are included BUT there are restrictions on this. When you lease a car, the vehicle will normally be “driven” delivered to a home or business address. This means that an actual delivery driver, will drive your new vehicle to you. The delivery remit is generally England and Wales only. For Scottish deliveries, there may be an additional charge, especially if you live in the northern areas; in particular if you need a transported delivery there will be further costs. For a Northern Ireland customer, the situation is slightly more tricky. You essentially have two choices:
1. You can meet the delivery driver at an English/Scottish port – the delivery driver will take the vehicle to Stranraer or Liverpool and you will meet them there. The delivery process is exactly the same, in that you review the vehicle/note the delivery mileage/note 2-keys are with the vehicle etc
2. The vehicle can be delivered to the Northern Irish port – this is not always possible and, where it is, it will only be available at an additional cost.
