Thank you to our local personal leasing customer, from Leigh (Greater Manchester), for visiting the CarLease UK team to collect their brand new small SUV – the Mercedes GLA.
The demand for petrol and automatic SUVs is something which we find to be quite surprising, given that 5 year ago these cars would have been referred to as “gas-guzzlers” and “inefficient”.
The public’s understanding of fuel types and car types is so distorted that manufacturers really do not know what cars they should be producing to secure a successful future. No manufacturer is immune from these changes; take Land Rover with recent financial losses, factory closures and product re-thinks.
Much of this blame can be apportioned to an inconsistent and uninformed Government, which has done very little to encourage growth in the automotive sector. We are being told that diesel is a more polluting, company cars are not the future (as the tax regime highlights) and that electric cars are the future (minus any tax breaks, grants or subsidies). Thankfully our ombudsman the BVRLA, along with other leasing brokers and finance companies, are highlighting these inconsistencies and confusions with a hope that more is done to help provide confidence to the public.
We are still relatively “behind” on certain vehicles and our approach in the UK definitely needs revision.

On the technical-side, company car and business lease customers can note the P11d at £30,800.00 and Co2 at 148g/km. The 1595CC 7 speed auto engine delivers 43.5 combined MPG, 156ps and 0-62 times of 8.1 seconds. Service intervals on a petrol GLA are every 12 months or 15,500 miles, whichever lands sooner.
So would you select the GLA as your next car leasing option? Or would the Audi Q2, VW T-Roc or BMW X1 or a Alfa Romeo Stelvio get your vote?
