Is the UK Budget going to include tax breaks to fund driverless cars?
It seems that the upcoming budget will include a finance package of at least £75m for artificial intelligence and as much as £160m towards the 5G phone system installation.
Additionally, the department of education is expecting £100m with the specific requirement of training more computer science teachers. These are part of the chancellors plan to have the UK at the front of driverless car technology, put simply, the biggest change to transport since the internal combustion engine.
Built into every smart motorway is the data carrying ability and signal points that autonomous cars will need for speed control and lane management. With the government touting this as being worth as much as £30bn to our economy, the investment is not surprising. But add to this the fact that the government is aiming for fully functioning driverless cars inside three years, you can also understand the push.
